Domaine Jean-Pierre Bailly lies in the heart of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. A family of winemakers, the business is now in its sixth generation, with Patrice Bailly taking over from his father in 2000. The grapes were machine harvested and 100% destemmed. After pressing, fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine aged on fine lees for four months before bottling. The 2019 vintage was once again affected by spring frost, reducing the yields. The summer was very dry with little rain from the beginning of June. This also reduced the crop levels however the quality of what was harvested was good.Domaine Jean-Pierre Bailly owns 17 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc vines, which are situated on the hills among the best vineyards in Pouilly-Fumé. The vines are on average 15 years old, planted in the communes of Tracey-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain and Pouilly-sur-Loire. They are planted at an average density of 6,600 vines per hectare on calcareous kimmeridgian marl and limestone soils, which are typical of the appellation.
Food pairing: Fresh goat cheeses, creamy Brie, triple creme cheeses, ricotta, feta and Parmigiano-Reggiano all go well with Sancerres and Pouilly-Fumes.
On the nose this wine is expressive with aromas of peach, citrus fruit and white flowers. The palate has a lovely concentration of flavour which is well balanced by zesty acidity, lending a mineral freshness to the finish. 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc.
Winemaker: Patrice Bailly Alcohol (ABV): 12.5 %
