'Roy' is the old spelling for 'roi' in French and the name 'Terres du Roy' means 'lands of the king'. The vineyards are situated on land which was once two lakes, Rochefort and Pujaut. The lakes were artificially drained in 1612 to provide feuding parties more land for agricultural use. The wine is vinified in a modern winery that was renovated in 2001. The grapes were macerated for 20-25 days in stainless-steel tanks. The wine was then fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. No oak was used, resulting in a wine with intense and vibrant primary fruit character. The vineyards are planted on soils covered with pebbles located on hills overlooking the Pujaut plain, seven kilometres north of Avignon. The vines are on average 40 years old and the vineyards are managed sustainably. Their location in the Southern Rhône produces riper and richer wines with a little more body than further north.
Food pairing ideas : Beef, pork, duck and lamb will complement your wine perfectly and so will game and sausages. It can also be pair well with spicy Asian dishes. Of course, like so many French wines, the Cotes du Rhone can be enjoyed with a large variety of cheeses, soft and hard, and even with fish, selfish and sushi as well. 60% Grenache/Garnacha , 30% Syrah/Shiraz, 5% Carignano/Carignan, 5% Mourvèdre .
This Côtes du Rhône is ruby red in colour and has an enticing nose that is ripe and concentrated, full of jammy dark fruits. It is supple, rich yet balanced with crisp acidity and a finish that is dominated by peppery notes and preserved fruits.
