`Le Jardin de Petit-Village` Pomerol, Château Petit-Village, Bordeaux, France, 2014

Château Certan. The estate shares an owner (AXA Millesimes) with Château Pichon-Baron and, as with the latter, Petit-Village has benefited from renovation and improvement over the last two decades. Lower yields in the vineyards, a new barrel cellar and fermentation vats have all been implemented by Daniel Llose and Serge Ley, who oversee the work in the vineyards and the winery between them. Le Jardin de Petit Village is the second wine of Château Petit Village. All the grapes were hand picked. The wine was fermented in temperature controlled, concrete vats for 10 days. The wine was aged in one year old French oak barrels for 15 months (25% new, 75% one year old). The winemakers, Serge Ley and Daniel Llose are also responsible for the highly respected Pauillac Grand Cru from Château Pichon-Baron. They work alongside Stéphane Derenoncourt, who consults for the Château. The vineyard is situated at the highest point of Pomerol. The vines are planted on free-draining, gravel soils, which is an advantage in the maritime climate. The subsoil is known as 'crasse de fer', an iron-rich clay that is said to offer great complexity to the wines of Pomerol. The vineyards are planted with 75% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are between 15 and 20 years old.

Food pairing ideas: Chateau Petit Village is best paired with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes. Chateau Petit Village is also good when matched with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms and pasta. 100% Merlot .A powerful yet elegant wine with concentrated notes of red and black fruits, notes of cinnamon and sweet spice. On the palate the wine is excellently structured, full-bodied with silky tannins and bright acidity. Flavours of strawberry jam and tobacco box linger on the finish. 100% Merlot.
